O voto do brasileiro - Edição Bilíngue

O voto do brasileiro - Edição Bilíngue

Sinopse

The Brazilian Presidential Elections

In The Brazilian Presidential Elections (O voto do brasileiro, in Portuguese), Alberto Carlos Almeida analyzes the last three presidential elections in Brazil. The author demonstrates that the stronghold of the PSDB in those elections was the middle class of the state of São Paulo, while poorer voters in the Northeast of the country made that region the PT citadel. The author goes on to show that presidential elections in Brazil are structured just like national elections in the world's major democracies. Consequently, he argues, it is highly unlikely that the PSDB or the PT will not contest the runoff round of the upcoming presidential election.

It is of note that this important aspect still remains unclear to the majority of the country's influential thinkers, be they the politicians themselves, journalists, or the business and financial elites.

The chapters of the book deal with:

  • The vote
  • Income
  • Living conditions
  • Zooming in
  • First world Brazil
  • Forecast of electoral results in 2018

Like most of Alberto Almeida's published work, this book is essentially analytical in nature and non-judgmental concerning values. It uses academic scholarship to divulge in accessible language, on an ample scale, a crucial aspect of Brazilian politics.

The book contains several maps of the country that reveal, by region, how voting occurred in recent elections and how income is distributed, as well as indicators of living conditions. In the chapter entitled "Zooming in", various regions, states and some municipalities are subjected to close-up analysis, calling attention to and reflecting on discrepancies in electoral results. The chapter "First world Brazil" compares voting patterns in Brazil with those of Spain, Germany, France, Italy, Great Britain and the United States, pointing out important similarities. In the last chapter the reader (or the voter) will get the chance to forecast the result of the forthcoming presidential election, based on the premises chosen and the consequences of each of them on the on the outcome of the election.

The book will contain both Portuguese and English texts and is to be published by Record Publishing House.
